Women Who Paint
Women come. Women come to paint....and to be. I am certain they come knowing they will touch a brush, and some paint carefully set in a tray of colours. They know they will need water...to make the pigment move on the paper. What they might not know as they step to the table in the studio is that they will bring their heart and soul to this place of creating. They will bring thoughts, and concerns, griefs and pain....secrets and certainties. These things ~they can stay tucked inside.....nicely, politely.....or, they can flow out with a force that is frightening.
There is something marvelous about the creative process that asks humans to come as themselves. I am just beginning to know this in my own journey....privately, painfully, authentically. That I watch this phenomenon occur with every single one of my students is a wonder....a privilege....a holy place....sacred ground. I will continue....even on this warm summer day....to take off my shoes. As one person sees just a little bit more clearly in the Mirror a bit more, a deeper place of Who they Are while they Paint.
It is all a privilege....and a marvel.
It's a piece of the Divine. The created ones reflecting the Creator as they create.
